Holy, Holy, Holy

Similar to last month’s, appropriate for the start of the new year, this poem focuses on the holiness of God and how in His holiness and magnificence and set apartness, of all things He chooses to draw near to us. He makes Himself knowable and approachable. He opens up His court and allows us to run to Him.

He has sought us, holy as He is, and now invites us to respond. “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord.” Now, will we believe Him?

Holy Is the Lord

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord we adore,

Who satisfies our souls with the riches of His store,

Who makes us leap like calves and like eagles soar—

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord we adore.

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord we know,

Who calms the raging sea and makes the lilies grow,

Who says to orphans, “Come,” and to His people, “Go”—

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord we know.

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord in whom we rest,

Who calls us to lay down our good for His perfect best,

Who amid their tragedy makes the righteous blessed—

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord in whom we rest.

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord to whom we run,

Who for us the price has paid and the victory won,

Who calls us neither foe nor guest but beloved son—

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord to whom we run.

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord who sees,

Who bears our fear and sorrows and insecurities,

Whose mighty grace and glory bring us to our knees—

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord who sees.

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord who is good,

Who made the choice and sacrifice no man ever could

And sees within us righteousness where naught but evil stood—

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord who is good.

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord we believe,

Who never shall forget, abandon, or deceive;

To find Him is the greatest that we can achieve—

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord we believe.

Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying: “‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,’

who was, and is, and is to come.
